Learning and Activities

Structured learning and childcare in Newquay

Learning and Activities

We promote play as the most appropriate way for children under five to learn.

At Kneehigh Nursery each day is structured with planned learning activities. We have a short-term curriculum plan for each day of the week. The curriculum is designed to be suitable for all the children that attend the nursery. We now also incorporate a free flow system throughout each session, where the children have free access to activities and anything that interests them.

At Kneehigh Nursery we use a key worker system which offers each family support and care from one of our qualified members of staff. The staff member is responsible for encouraging and tracking your child’s development and ensuring you’re kept up to date on their learning journey.

Learning that rewards individuality

At Kneehigh Nursery we have specific aims to prepare your child for school. With all our learning activities we consider knowledge, skills, concepts, ideas and attitudes. With our curriculum we aim to:

  • To encourage your child to be polite, considerate, ask questions, be as independent as they can be and be ready to attend school when the time comes.
  • To be able to write their own name and more if possible.
  • To recognize and hopefully write the numbers up to five.
  • To know all the colours and most shapes.

We offer a full range of activities:

  • Water

Notification for bookings

When you book your child’s time at Kneehigh it will be for the same sessions each week. However, if you require a more flexible arrangement then speak with Sarah to see if this is possible.

We cannot guarantee a place for your child if it is not booked.

We would appreciate 3 days’ notice in advance for irregular bookings (to organise staffing) however please feel free to ring and check availability.

If your child misses a session due to illness or any other reason you will still be required to pay the full fee unless you contact Kneehigh or Sarah an hour (at the latest) before your child is due at Kneehigh. Kneehigh’s number is

01637 876 293. Sarah’s number is 01637 877 112. If your child starts at 8am please contact before 7:30am. If we are notified about your child not attending, a 10% reduction on fees due will be made.

Children in receipt of funding will have this for 38 weeks of the year. During unfunded periods your child will be expected to attend Kneehigh for the same amount of sessions that they were attending before receiving funding each week. Alternatively you can use some of their holiday allowance or pay a reduced fee to keep their place, otherwise you will have to re-enrol (unless you have stated that they will only attend in term time only.) If you choose to re-enrol and there is a waiting list, you will have to join the waiting list.

Kneehigh requires at least 2 weeks’ notice if you wish to withdraw your child from any session you have booked as a regular.

About Kneehigh Nursery

The nursery is privately owned and not part of a chain. Kneehigh moved into its new purpose built property in March 2003. It has a completely enclosed play area. Kneehigh is situated in a quiet residential area on the edge of the centre of Newquay, which means access to it is easy. There is parking immediately outside the premises. Kneehigh provides “Quality Care and Education, where your child comes first”. Kneehigh’s dedicated staff make sure your child feels safe, happy and stimulated within a welcoming setting. Kneehigh gained accreditation in November 2006 and it’s last OFSTED inspection was ‘Good’. Kneehigh has ‘freeflow’ between the indoors and outdoors for the majority of the day. The team at Kneehigh are always striving to improve the environment and education provided, whilst keeping the prices affordable.
